Prospect Heights Arts Festival May 5-6, 2006


The First Annual Prospect Heights Arts Festival is CALLING ALL ARTISTS!

MISSION: The Prospect Heights Arts Council brings together creative people from all walks of life who are interested in the development and sustenance of a healthy, diverse community.   To that end the Prospect Heights Arts Council produces the annual Prospects Heights Arts Festival which features visual, performing and literary artists from the neighborhood whose work appeals to a range of audiences from children to adults who make of this vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL: The Prospect Heights Arts Council is currently working on identifying artists and spaces (studios, galleries, businesses and shops) to host the work and events and participate in the festival. Some of the components are: a Spiritual Arts Parade, Exhibitions in the area, Open Studios, Use of Open and enclosed Spaces - Parks, Museum and Galleries, Shops and Local Businesses, Apartment and Co-ops Lobbies, Performances - Music, Film, Readings and exhibitions.

ABOUT PROSPECT HEIGHTS: Prospect Heights is a neighborhood in Brooklyn, USA, bounded by Flatbush Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Eastern Parkway and Washington Avenue. At the northernmost frontier are the Atlantic Avenue Train Yards. Defunct bakeries and factory spaces line Pacific Street from Vanderbilt Avenue to Carlton Avenue. The neighborhood consists mostly of brownstone style residential buildings, although the blocks of Lincoln and St. Johns Places between Underhill and Washington Avenues are multi-unit, depression-era buildings.

OPEN STUDIOS:Please complete an application and submit name, studio address including suite number, phone, e-mail address, primary art medium and $25 cash or check per person made out to Prospect Heights Arts Council. Studios must be in Prospect Heights.

INSTALLATION AND PERFORMANCE ART:Please complete an application and Submit TWO COPIES of a proposal as soon as possible. This should include detailed written and visual descriptions of the project, a list of any technical requirements, a list of possible non-gallery locations in the Prospect Heights area, a resume and images of previous work.

PROSE, POETRY, READINGS and SPOKEN WORD:Please complete an application and Submit profile, 3 samples of work and $25 cash or check per person/group made out to Prospect Heights Arts Council . Please send two copies of a proposal.

MUSIC:Please complete an application and Submit name, address including suite number, phone, e-mail address, primary music medium and $25 cash or check per person made out to Prospect Heights Arts Council. Studios must be in Prospect Heights

SHORT FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL:This event is designed to showcase the work of independent and experimental film and video makers living in the greater New York City area. A signed application form, director's biography, synopsis, and a $25 entry fee must accompany each submission. Entries can be video, film or software-based.   Acceptable formats for the festival include VHS, Mini DV, DVD, 16mm, betacam, or Mac/PC-based software. Applicant must be a resident of one of the five boroughs of New York. Fee must be made out to Prospect Heights Arts Council.

SIMULTANEOUS PROJECTIONS:Projections of slides, film loops, videos and motion graphics onto streets and building exteriors. Please complete an application and Submit 3 samples on a CD or send two copies of a proposal and $25 cash or check per person/group made out to Prospect Heights Arts Council.

OTHER:We are also seeking panel discussions/lectures, comedy and fashion shows. A limited number will be selected.

DEADLINES:First Application Entry Deadline: January 31, 2006 and Final Application Deadline: February 15, 2006

SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION:The festival panel will make a final selection of works after the entry deadline. Only selected applicants will be informed by March 30, 2006.
